Practical guide · 2026

Can I visit Perito Moreno or El Chaltén on the same day as my flight?

The question almost nobody answers. With a real story, I explain how to make the most of your arrival or departure day without losing a whole day of your trip.

Quick answer

Yes, with a private transfer and good planning. If your flight lands in the morning, you can go straight from the airport to the Perito Moreno Glacier with your luggage. And if your flight leaves in the afternoon, there is an express version of El Chaltén that starts early. The key: carefully calculated timing and a driver who waits.

Can I go straight from the airport to Perito Moreno on arrival?

Yes. And it is one of the best ways to gain a whole day of your trip. If your flight lands in the morning, there is no need to go to the hotel first to drop your bags and wait for check-in: you can head straight from the airport to the Perito Moreno Glacier.

With a private transfer the driver meets you with a sign showing your name at the terminal exit, and your luggage travels in the vehicle all day. If you prefer, we stop at your hotel to leave the bags, or make a stop at a café so you start the day with something warm. The glacier is about 80 km from town, and the transfer is round trip with waiting time: I take you, wait while you walk the boardwalks and bring you back.

🚐 Airport → Glacier, straight on your arrival day

The private transfer to the glacier (round trip with waiting time) has a fixed price per vehicle, today ARS 150,000 (about USD 129) for up to 4 passengers. You use the full day instead of losing it at the hotel.

Can I visit El Chaltén if my flight leaves in the afternoon?

Yes, in an express version with a private transfer. It is something the regular services do not offer you: line buses do not fit the timing to go, explore and return for an afternoon flight. In fact, it is a real case: a passenger told me no company would offer it to him, and with the logistics well planned it worked without a problem.

This is the real logistics of a day that starts early:

Important: those times are for reference, not a fixed guaranteed schedule. Every departure is tailor-made: the exact times are coordinated with me around your flight, to make sure you reach the airport with a buffer. If your flight leaves earlier or later, we adjust the plan for the day.
🏔️ Private transfer to El Chaltén

The private transfer to El Chaltén has a fixed price per vehicle, today ARS 220,000 (about USD 189) round trip, or ARS 300,000 the Full Day, for up to 4 passengers. The express version is coordinated around your flight.

How much buffer do I need to reach the airport?

For domestic flights, the general recommendation is to be at the airport about an hour and a half before departure. Comandante Armando Tola International Airport (FTE) is about 23 km from town, a drive of 20 to 25 minutes.

That buffer is built into the day's excursion: when we plan an El Chaltén express or any departure-day trip, I calculate the return with the airport transfer time already included, so there is no last-minute rush. If you want to review what that trip is like, I explain it here: how to get from the airport to town.

A real passenger's story

Daniel Jerez, private driver in El Calafate

Let me tell you how it went

Recently I had a passenger with few days and tight flights. He landed in the morning and, instead of going to the hotel to wait for check-in, I took him straight from the airport to the Glacier with the bags in the car. He got the whole day.

The next day he was flying out at 5:30 pm and wanted to see El Chaltén, but no company would offer it. We put together an express trip: we set off early, stopped for photos of condors, guanacos and even a fox that crossed the road, he did the Cóndores Viewpoint and Chorrillo del Salto, and I dropped him at the airport at 4:00 pm sharp, with plenty of time for his flight. He left happy, with Patagonia well and truly made the most of.

Shall we plan your day to fit?

Tell me your flights —date, arrival time and departure time— and I will tell you which excursion fits without rushing. We coordinate the timing so you make the most of every day.

Frequently asked questions

Can I go straight from the airport to Perito Moreno with my luggage?

Yes. With a private transfer the driver meets you with a sign at the airport exit and your luggage travels in the vehicle all day, so there is no need to stop at the hotel first. If your flight lands in the morning, you can head straight to the Perito Moreno Glacier and make the most of a full day.

Can El Chaltén be done in half a day?

Yes, with a private transfer in an express version. You leave El Calafate early; it is about 2.5 hours on the road (215 km) and in El Chaltén there is time for the Cóndores Viewpoint and Chorrillo del Salto, with photo stops along the way. Regular buses do not fit the timing to return the same day for an afternoon flight.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

With a private transfer your flight number is tracked, so if the plane lands early or late the driver adjusts the time and waits. Since every departure is tailor-made, the timing is coordinated directly with me around your real flight, with no fixed slots or vans that leave without you.

How early do I need to be at El Calafate airport?

For domestic flights it is best to be at the airport about an hour and a half before departure. Comandante Armando Tola International Airport (FTE) is 23 km from town, around 20 to 25 minutes away, so the day's excursion is planned with that buffer built in.

Does the transfer wait while I visit the glacier?

Yes. On the transfer to the Perito Moreno Glacier the driver takes you, waits while you walk the boardwalks and brings you back. It is a private vehicle just for you, with a fixed price per vehicle for up to 4 passengers and no rush from shuttle schedules.

Can I combine airport + excursion + airport on one short stay?

Yes, and it is something I arrange often for travellers with few days. One day you use the arrival to go straight to the glacier with your luggage, and on departure day you do an express excursion and reach the airport in time for your flight. The exact times are coordinated around your flights so everything fits with no rushing.
